For their topic 'Where in the World' children in Reception have been learning about the continents. They looked at the continent of Europe and some of the countries in it. They paid particular attention to Italy, so decided to make an Italian favourite - pasta! The children made the dough using plain flour and water. They then kneaded it and let it prove and rest. Year 3 children paid a special visit to Reception last week as they wanted to share the books they had written with them in French. Year 3 children have been reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar (La Chenille qui fait des Trous) in French, from which they have learnt the days of the week and learnt how to use a French dictionary to look up different fruit and vegetables. This all led to them being able to write their very own versions of the story, which they also illustrated. In Year 3, the children are reading 'Tales Told in Tents', a selection of short stories from Central Asia. To help us explore the sights, sounds and smells of a market place they worked on making freeze frames. Last half term, Year 5 were fortunate enough to attend The 02 in Greenwich twice for the @british_film_festival organised by the @britishfilminstitute. Last half term, our newly appointed Year 5 & 6 TFL Travel Ambassadors attended a convention at The Valley Stadium @cafcofficial. Our ambassadors are responsible for promoting safe, active and sustainable travel within the school community. All classes in KS2 joined together @elthamparish Church to hear Bible readings read by class volunteers, listen to the School Choir's version of "Little Drummer Boy", including a djembe drum player and join prayers written by the Worship Committee, all under the supervision and support of Revd Caroline. Our Year 2 children gave a delightful performance of the Nativity story @elthamparish Church before Christmas. They sang with great enthusiasm and our Year 1 children also did a great job with their performance of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The topic in Reception this term is 'Journey'. A big thank you to Ms Samuels' Dad who came to school last week to talk about being a Black Taxi Driver and brought his taxi along for the children to explore. He spoke about having to go to taxi school (The Knowledge) for 3 years and having to learn every road in London for when he has a journey. The children asked lots of interesting questions and they loved the see-through roof and the fact they could face each other when sitting down. . #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london

Copying the actions when reading a story in French helps children understand new language.
