Art Award

At Eltham Church of England School, we proudly celebrate the creativity and achievements of our children in Art and Design through our annual Art Award. This special recognition is part of a collective worship event that highlights individual children for their:

  • Creative expression

  • Unique artistic perspectives

  • Growth through experimentation

  • Engagement with the subject throughout the year

The Art Award was established in memory of Nick McKerney, a dedicated school governor whose passion for the arts left a lasting legacy. Nick believed deeply in the importance of nurturing creativity in children. He was instrumental in promoting the arts within education and even authored the Art & Design curriculum for Key Stages 3 and 4.

Though Nick has sadly passed away, his vision continues to inspire our school community. The Art Award is held in his name, honouring his commitment to fostering artistic enthusiasm and celebrating the creative spirit of every child.

Various art projects and children's creative journals were taken into consideration for the judging of the 2025 Award.  The judges looked for a variety of mediums used, the annotated notes and the overall outcomes of each piece, in order to choose their finalists, runners-up and overall winners. There were:

  • 2 shortlisted entries per class.
  • Funded prizes for winners, presented in a whole school winners’ assembly!

All shortlisted entries are shown here – congratulations to you all! Prizes for the winners were gifted by Nick McKerney.
