Learning about the different features of a house whilst reading "The 3 Little Pigs" in French, brought joy to Year 3 children as they competed in pairs to be the first to construct their house. Dice frustration was overcome and it was lovely to see children shaking hands after each round. The older members of our school choir performed at this year's Royal Greenwich Music Service's Singing Spectacular at @blackheathhalls. KS2 Sports Day was a huge success with great sportsmanship on show across all year groups. It was very tight at the top of the leader board until the final races when Red Team leapt into first place. In Year 4, children have been working hard on their final pieces using different skills from their previous blocks of learning. Three children in Year 2 had their French written work selected to be published in the most recent Write Away! magazine. The magazine celebrates written work produced by children in their language lessons in primary schools and we were delighted to see the pieces about farm animals the children like and dislike published at such a young age. Our Year 6 children deserved a very well earned trip to Avery Hill Park to play cricket and other games the day after they finished their SATS assessments. What truly defines their success is the resilience and determination they have shown and the maturity they have developed along the way. The 80th anniversary of VE Day was commemorated across the whole school on Thursday 8th May with a variety of activities. Children enjoyed their lunch outside under the Union Jack coloured bunting dressed in their red, white and blue clothing and then all year groups created artwork representing the sacrifice of freedom made by so many during World War 2. It's incredible what can be observed in a beautiful green space so close to our school. Children in Year 2 spent the afternoon at the Well Hall Pleasaunce to observe, count, track or draw any animals they could see (a brave squirrel came out to say hello!), different types of plants and flowers, a historical building, and from the edge of the park, surrounding buildings and various forms of transport. The children were also able to read about some of the wonderful history we have right on our doorstep. Year 1 children have been exploring the work of Anne Kelly, who uses textiles and mixed media in her art. They practised a variety of skills to then create a self-portrait and used different types of material and chalk dipped in water to create them. Children in Year 2 really enjoyed baking and decorating animal themed cupcakes for their charity initiative, Woodlands Farm Trust. They organised a bake sale after school where they raised £150 for Woodlands Farm! . @woodlandsfarmtrust #charity #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london

Children in Year 1 used junk materials to make models of synagogues to support their learning about Judaism in RE. They worked in groups, focusing on the key features inside a synagogue and then labelled them. Great team work from our younger children. . #se9 ##eltham #greenwich #london

With the London Marathon starting in @royal_greenwich, it seemed fitting for children in years 4 to 6 to take part in a 2 mile mini-marathon last week. Resilience and determination saw all of the children run 9 laps of the measured course to make it across the finish line, with some still running at lap 18! The children in Year 4 had great fun using a variety of props to recreate the process from the moment food passes our lips to the moment it is excreted from our bodies. He is risen! What a joy it was to bring the whole school together for our Easter Services last week in church @elthamparish .
