Our Nursery

"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."
Proverbs 22:6

Organisation of Nursery

We have a fantastic Nursery at Eltham Church of England school. We have a large indoor space which includes a welcoming book corner, exciting role play area and well-equipped crafting station as well as opportunities for the children to use build with construction. Our outdoor provision offers the children the opportunity to climb, cycle, share books, play musical instruments and explore the natural world, in both the water troughs and mud kitchen. In the summer months, we regularly visit the Edible Garden where the children enjoy growing plants and investigating mini-beasts and their habitats. Our Nursery team provide a warm and safe learning space, where the children can develop and grow within a nurturing environment. We offer a broad range of activities that cover all seven of areas within the Early Years curriculum. We encourage our Nursery children to be curious, take an interest in the world around them, develop their independence and enjoy learning in a variety of ways.

Our Nursery is a language-rich environment. Every day we sing songs, enjoy rhymes and share books and stories together. We celebrate the children’s mark making and early attempts at writing by displaying them on our writing wall. We love writing class books which we publish and add to our book corner. In the spring term, we start the systematic teaching of phonics using Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS), which is also used in Reception and Year 1.

During the year, we enjoy a variety of topics. Here are some of our favourites This is me, Transport, Dinosaurs, Under the Sea, Buds and Bugs, and Traditional Tales.  During the year we participate in some school events such as the art festival, World Book day and watching the Christmas pantomime. We join Reception class in putting on a Nativity show for parents too and work closely with them in the Summer to aid transition.

Through all these activities and so much more, Eltham Church of England Nursery is a great place for the children to start their primary school career.

“We have been so impressed with the nursery. My son hadn’t been in a setting with more than 2 children before and we were nervous about how he would react, but he LOVES it! He has been exposed to so many wonderful things – theme days, craft, outdoor play, and comes away each day with lots to tell us. There is clearly a lot of thought and care that goes into the nursery and I know my son has benefitted. We are so thankful that his first experience at school has been here, with warm, fun teachers and a wonderful space to learn in”

“Absolutely amazing nursery with wonderful staff; so welcoming, professional, supportive and caring. There are so many different activities. My daughter is so happy every day. When she sees the staff and her friends, she can’t wait to run in with a big smile on her face. There is also a balance between playing and learning. I’m so impressed my daughter’s improvement in confidence, communication, reading and even writing her friends names. Also, she loves the food.”
